I Hate Valentine's Day

UGH. It's that time of year again. That bright red, mushy, lovey-dovey time of year. I hate Valentine's day.

Valentine's Day is absolute poop.

Whether in a relationship or not, I have never liked it. It is a commercial, consumerist, non-holiday.

What annoys me most is that people feel the need to celebrate the day with their loved ones, expressing their affection through roses and teddy bears, on a day that everyone, everywhere is doing the exact same thing.

What's so special about that?

People being treated like one-in-a-million, sure, it's a nice gesture, but why do it out of obligation to a calendar?

The way I see it, you and your partner should be making each other feel special all the time. Regardless of what the calendar says.

Love should not be a chore.

Nor should it be smooshed into the faces of people that don't want to know. Public displays of affection are somewhat icky.

I once saw a couple in Starbucks, where a man gave his girlfriend a teddy - she liked it so much that she almost kissed his face off. Rather graphically.

Keep it to yourselves people.

I think the best thing about the Valentine's season is the discounted chocolates on February 15th.

I've heard radio adverts for Ebay this year, telling everyone to treat the most important person in their lives - THEMSELVES.

That's right. Make room for some self-love.

I intend to spend my Valentine's with my housemates - the people I love; boycotting the fake holiday and stuffing my face with lovely romantic chocolates.

To Me, Love Me. x

Also, it's my bestest friend's birthday today, so it brings me great joy that he was born on the soppiest day of the year, and I get to wind him up about it <3
