That’s right… I'm back, with a brand-new shiny blog. A space to share my thoughts with you lovely people who take the time to read them.
I’m currently at home in Bath, on Christmas break from my third year at uni, and my-oh-my has the pressure been intense… I’ve had about eight assignment pieces to hand in over the last few, rather stressful weeks. I’ve had to move uni campus’, change supermarkets and live on below £0, so I guess you could say I’m still living this student life pretty damn well.
But now, I’m home, and the sound of giggling, stomping, screaming children, has been my natural alarm for this last week and I love it.
It’s always comforting coming home. When I frequently started visiting for short weekends, I thought I’d lost that ‘welcome home’ feeling’. It felt normal to just be here briefly, as a visitor, but now I’m home for at least 6 weeks and it feels amazing.
I am home. No more cold, draughty bedroom. No more pulling out wires for the TV and balancing them precariously to get a good connection. No more, ‘what’s left in the cupboards, oh I’ll just have toast – oh, wait, there’s no butter.’
No more.
Don’t get me wrong, I will be missing my little Cornish life over the next few weeks, and I still look forward to being back there, but sometimes it’s important to have a break. I find that time away often allows you to appreciate the things you have. ‘Distance makes the heart grow fonder,‘ as they say.
I love that I have a quiet little home in Cornwall – granted it’s cold and I’m pretty sure there are ghosts in it, but it’s mine and I love it. I also have a cosy home up in Bath, that is busy and loud and full of great food. The perfect contrast.
I now have the time to reflect on all of these things, and really appreciate where I am on the run up to new year.
And where I am right now, is on my wobbly dining room chair looking out through the doors into the garden. Type, type, typing away…
… It’s good to be back.
