And a Happy New Year

Most people like to celebrate New Year's by staying awake till the clock strikes midnight; maybe a drink in hand along with a little sing song to Auld Lang Syne. This year for me however, I'm taking a back seat with the celebrations and a front seat in relaxation.

After having such a busy, full-on Christmas, as we have most years, I am beyond ready to sit back and relax this New Year's Eve.

I am not impartial to a good celebration, but New Year is often slightly underwhelming for me. I think there is too big a pressure to go out and promise yourself that this year will be better than the last, when in reality, there was nothing majorly wrong with the previous year.

In my family, there are a lot of birthday's around Christmas and January. There is always so much to prepare for and think about, so maybe in my old age of nearly twenty one, I'm just running out of energy. Who knows.

What I do know is that I will be making good use of all my new bath products and books this New Year's Eve. A nice bath and a good book, followed by some dramatic New Year's Eastenders? Count me in.

Despite all the anticipation of the forthcoming year, I am quite fond of a New Year's resolution.

It used to take me ages to think of something worthwhile, the best one I've had so far being try new things - but they were mainly food related and just gave mum a good excuse to force-feed me betroot.

I'm not sure what exactly my resolution is this year. Perhaps to complain less about trivial things (though that makes for a good read, right?) Regardless, I am going kick-start my New Year with a little personal challenge.

I am going to conduct a seven day writing challenge, so for the first week of January, I will be posting something new EVERY DAY.

That's right.

I am doing this to encourage myself to really get back into the blogging scene, and start the New Year by doing something I enjoy. It's just a small challenge, but one that is completely reachable.

Unlike the big goals we set ourselves for the entire year and then forget about by next Christmas, I think it is important to set ourselves challenges little and often. They are less daunting than the big promises we make to ourselves, and give us that sense of achievement all year round, no matter how small the challenge may be.

I would love to know what all of your New Year's resolutions are. Maybe you'll run a mile everyday. Maybe you'll try and use your phone less. Perhaps you'll learn a new skill, or try out a (dare I say it...) vegan diet.

Whatever it is that you're aiming towards this year, big or small, leave a comment and share your goals. Who knows, you might inspire someone who is struggling to think of a resolution.

And maybe by this time next year, you'll be able to tell me what you have achieved.

Whether you are celebrating with friends and family, or having a quiet one in front of the telly, I wish you all a very Happy New Year.

At least with my writing challenge on the go, you won't be short of things to read!

Enjoy,

E. x
